Picture this: you’re sitting in a favored restaurant on a night out, free to spend a bit because that’s what you’re there to do. Sounds pretty good so far, huh? Well, what started out so promisingly begins to head downhill almost immediately. You know things are looking bad when you’re already thinking about what else you could be doing (or, in this case, eating) while you’re still sitting in said restaurant. That was the story with the BK Big Fish I had tonight. I even had two — on sale — to make sure my first impressions weren’t misguided. Unfortunately, attempting to improve this lug is not a smart investment to make.

If there’s one thing that White Castle seems to get right with me, it’s that — even late at night — my fried food is always pipin’ hot and fresh outta the fryer. The regular French fries I reviewed a while back might been a little too regular for their own good, but I did at least get them blazing hot. Now is this deep-fried outcome preferable to the time-tested steam-grilled method employed with the WC’s signature Slyders? Hard to say. All I know is that this fish was hot (and cheap) enough to try again, even if it wouldn’t readily be my first choice.

Wendy’s Premium Fish Fillet Sandwich: “Hand-cut fillets of North Pacific cod in a crisp Panko crumb breading, served with crisp lettuce and creamy tartar sauce on a warm bun….” If you’ve kept up with Wendy’s latest marketing blitz, you might have noticed a new ad line which states the following about itself: “It’s waaay better than fast food.” Whether Wendy’s qualifies as fast food or not (or is indeed better) is a point to consider, but the only question that concerns me here is whether I’d eat another one in the future. And the answer to that is a qualified yes.
