Direct-mail chicken coupons from McDonald’s

Korean couponsIt used to be that finding coupons for McDonald’s was a rare instance in the Sunday paper or a local ad insert. Now the McMarketers seem to be taking a more proactive approach to discounts by mailing promo coupons straight to its desired demographics, and I couldn’t be happier.

I’ve already encountered no fewer than three mailings to Korean Americans — mostly in Korean — including coupons for free Southern Style Chicken Sandwiches and Biscuits, no purchase necessary. While I’ve personally been left out of the biscuit bonanza myself, it would make sense to assume that other ethnic groups were targeted by McDonald’s for their latest product offerings as well. It’s also good to know that friends and family are perfectly willing to donate their mailing-list prizes, even if the food items aren’t exactly best in class. (Free food is still free food.)

Pepsi Stuff: Powered by Amazon.com

Pepsi Stuff: How to playIf you needed another reason to pick up Pepsi products, the big cola conglomerate has just started up its own version of My Coke Rewards earlier this month. Partnering with Amazon.com has allowed Pepsico to offer a lot more products people might actually want, even if the redemption requirements might be a bit higher than for MCR’s Blockbuster rental coupons (under the Entertainment category).

Pepsi Stuff works by collecting codes from participating packages and then entering them through an Amazon.com user account on PepsiStuff.com. Currently on offer: DRM-free MP3 music downloads, Unbox TV downloads, CDs, DVDs, electronics, sweepstakes, and various Pepsi-branded apparel “and more.” The Flash-based site can still be a bit rough around the edges (as on the daily sweepstakes page occasionally in Firefox), but an incentives program for those who prefer Pepsi is a good counter to Coke’s rewards.
